British media are giving significant coverage to Tuesday's address by a senior judge, Sir James Munby, president of the Family Division, to a Law Society Conference. His remarks, titled "Law Morality and Religion in the Family Courts, "trace changes in the role judges assign to religion:
In recent years we have witnessed enormous changes in the social and religious life of our country. A century ago, a judge could pray in aid the Church of England's Book of Common Prayer as an appropriate statement of the public policy to be applied by the courts. Today we live in a largely secular society which, insofar as it remains religious at all, is now increasingly diverse in religious affiliation. At the same time as the judges have - rightly - abandoned their pretensions to be the guardians of public morality Christian clerics have, by and large, moderated their claims to speak as the defining voices of morality and of the law of marriage and the family.

"Muslims excel at picking fights with other religions. If there's a religion out there that isn't Islam, Muslims will sooner or later get into a fight with it. Even if the religion is Islam, Muslims will still fight each other over which Islam is the right one.
But the main idea of Islamism is that the Jews are behind all the evil in the world. So when Muslims get into a fight with Buddhists, who are not that easy to provoke, their theology demands that the whole thing be explained in terms of Evil Jew Theory.
And that leaves them no other choice but to claim that the Jews invented Buddhism. Buddhism predates Islam. But Muslims have no problem dismissing older traditions and cultures as pawns of the Jewish Devil and then destroying them.
"In an August 8, 2012 interview with the Rasa news agency titled "The Cruel Genocide Against The Muslim People In Myanmar," Ayatollah Ruhollah Qarehi, head of the Imam Mahdi seminary in Tehran, said: "The genocide of the Muslims in Myanmar is ostensibly being carried out by the Buddhists, but we are certain that Judaism and Global Zionism are [behind] the massacre and the genocide against the Muslims... The tenets of Buddhism are derived from Judaism. The Buddhists are a tool [in the hands] of the Jews, and 'Buddhism' is a name behind which [hides] the hand of Judaism and Global Zionism."
Why did Jews invent Buddhism? Because everyone hates Jews and everyone loves Buddhists. So the Jews just started claiming to be Asians and calling themselves Buddhists.

Dear Young People, when I go round the diocese, I brag about you! You have no idea what it does to me to see so many from all over the diocese gathered here.
So Bishop Sample addressed over 650 young people and their chaperones who attended the annual See the See Youth Rally at St Peter's Cathedral yesterday.
The day consisted of songs of praise, great teaching by keynote speaker Cooper Ray, various workshops, including Eucharist Adoration.
Confessions were available for much of the day. I had a rather sore behind after sitting for two and half hours on the rather narrow perch in my confessional - what a joy to hear so many confessions of both youngsters and adults, and more in the afternoon.
Cooper broke down the word cool - the Bishop had said how cool it is to be Catholic - and spoke to the youngsters about being:
Crazy for their Catholic faith
Open to the knock of Christ on the doors of their hearts
Obedient to the call of Christ
Loving of God and neighbour.
Father Ben Hasse gave a beautiful teaching to small groups of 50 about Eucharistic adoration, quoting St Jean Marie Vianney and his own experience of hearing the call of the Lord as a result of Eucharistic adoration. There were other workshops that I was not present at due to being in the confessional.
In the afternoon there was a 'Stump the Bishop' session in the Baraga Gym across the road during which Bishop Sample answered all questions - goofy and profound - the kids were anxious to put to him.
The day finished with Mass during which the Bishop preached passionately about the call of Christ with reference to the call of Jesus to Zachaeus. At the end of Mass the Bishop blessed rosaries and distributed them to each of the young people individually.
A great day - please God it will result in the deepening of the love of Christ and His Church in these middle schoolers and to many priestly and religious vocations, as well as to Holy Marriage or a holy single life.

As I've mentioned on numerous occasions, the difference between prayer and magick is mostly one of terminology. While there are some technical distinctions as well, such as the more complex forms employed by ritual magicians versus the intuitive approach that most systems of prayer tend to take, the basic idea is the same - the mobilization of spiritual forces to produce change in the world. Prayer does generally call upon a deity, but any school of magick that incorporates theurgy into its rites does the same thing, just in a more systematic way.
Back in April, Texas Governor Rick Perry declared a "weekend of prayer" for rain that would ease the ongoing drought in his state. The results of that weekend were not encouraging, though to be fair as a decent weather worker I can say with some confidence that the situation in Texas has been pretty dire all summer in terms of weather patterns for precipitation. If there's no moisture in the air you can't conjure rain, even if you can manage to slide atmospheric fronts around with impunity.
The thing is, that when all the elements are present it's important to be careful. It's all too easy to start something way more powerful and potentially destructive than you intend, and once a big storm gets going it's usually hard to stop until it runs its course. This last weekend at the Roman Catholic Church's world youth festival in Madrid, Spain stifling heat led the event organizers to pray for rain. The results were a lot more impressive than those in Texas - a freak thunderstorm forced the Pope to cut short his speech amidst the rain and lightning.
During the day, firefighters atop fire trucks had sprayed the crowds with water from hoses as pilgrims sought shade from umbrellas, trees, tarps and tents in a bid to stave off the near 40^0C heat.
As night fell, a flash downpour drenched the crowd: With lightning in the night sky, the 84-year-old Pope was forced to skip the bulk of his speech and merely deliver brief greetings in a half-dozen languages.
Organisers told the crowd that they had asked for more water during the day when it was so hot and their prayers were answered. "With this rain, the Lord sends us many blessings," Pope Benedict quipped when he resumed his truncated remarks.
However, the storm proved much intense than the organizers likely intended, causing some damage to the venue along with a few injuries in addition to driving the Pope off the stage.
Six people were slightly injured when a tent collapsed. Some makeshift chapels set up on the field's perimeter were also damaged, forcing organisers to announce over loudspeakers that not everyone would be able to receive Communion during the main World Youth Day Mass.
Clearly there's still some magick in the rites of the Roman Catholic Church, but in the future it sounds like they need to be a little more careful how they wield it. Either that, or God's just less than happy with the current leadership and wanted to send them a message.

Starting in this month, esoteric lecturer Ken Rees is running his second series of evening classes in London on The Mystery Traditions: Past and Present. Although this follows on from his earlier course on the classical mystery traditions, you don't need to have studied that to get a lot out of this series of evening classes.
The course description says:
The Mystery Traditions of Europe did not die out consequent on the rise of Christianity from the 4th - 5th CE. centuries onwards. The need of many people to find solace in esoteric rather than exoteric institutions continued, often discretely and covertly. While we only have a broken chain of links from the classical Mediterranean schools to the present day, various orders and societies have carried secret knowledges forward including the Knights Templars, the medieval witch cult and the revived gnosis of the Albigensians.
The 17th and 18th centuries saw a re-invention of tradition. This creative activity expressed itself in a myriad ways, key representatives including Druidism (under the inspiration of a Celtic revival), the Rosicrucians and Freemasonry, while the Christian mystery tradition included that of the mystic Emanuel Swedenborg. Similarly, the 19th century saw a revival of Renaissance magic best exemplified by the original Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn.
The 20th/21st centuries have seen the rise of eclectic New Age philosophies including the Arcane School of Alice Bailey, Neo-Platonic groups such as the Universal Order and, within the Christian tradition, the Anna Kingsford influenced Order of the Cross. A number of hermetic societies on both sides of the Atlantic now exist, often incorporating the phrase `golden dawn'. While contemporary nature religion such as the Wicca version of witchcraft also embodies elements of mystery tradition as does neo-shamanism.

I don't know, it's just a psychological thing with me. Whenever I go to church, I feel out of place.
I want to change, but I'm not motivated to. Sometimes I feel like I need someone to motivate me, someone to make me get off my behind and go to church, problem is, those people usually don't last long in my life.
I'm left with a bunch of people who look at me as some kind of 'project'....so they're only telling you, not for your own good, but theirs, as 'soldiers' of the Lord and they're quick to give up on you.
I'm very shy and I don't like to go to places where I don't know the people there, I get a mini-attack if I do.
I'm Catholic, I don't want to change churches or 'try out' another church cuz I doubt anything will change, and no one can convince me to steer away from Catholicism. I have only been baptised, I think my disattachment lies in the fact that I haven't done my first holy communion. I would like to do that, but whenever I try, something comes up or I run away due to lack of acceptance. Maybe if I were a communicant, I'd be more motivated, I'd have something to look forward to.
No one has been able to understand me and I doubt anyone ever will....I just need to find myself cuz I'm slowly leaning into agnosticism.
