Worried by the wave of ugly incidents which has rocked our nation in recent times, most notable, the abduction of 234 girls from their school in Chibok, Borno State, Her Excellency (Mrs) Omolewa Ahmed, wife of the Executive Governor of Kwara State is calling for a Special Day of Fasting & Prayer for the nation.

The special prayers will hold Saturday, 17 May, 2014 at the Office of the wife of the Governor inside the Kwara State Government House. Mothers across the State are implored to observe a fast on Saturday for the nation. Continue below.

Muslim mothers will gather at 10am to call for divine intervention for the release of the abducted girls and for peace to reign in our country.

Their Christian counterparts will converge at the same venue, 4pm, same day to call on God with one voice to ensure the safe liberation of the abducted girls.

Whilst recognizing the outpouring of solidarity by several women and groups through peaceful demonstrations, Her Excellency Mrs Ahmed calls on all Nigerians irrespective of religious beliefs to pray for peace, stability and prosperity of the country.

She enjoins all to eschew bitterness, rancour and political bickering and embrace peace.

Her Excellency's heart goes out to all parents, family, relations and associates of all the people who have lost their lives since these spate of incidents began, particularly the parents of the recently abducted children.

It is the prayer of Her Excellency that Almighty God will restore peace to our dear fatherland.
