Tutankhamun Menet Bird

Menet Bird Of Tutankhamun

This carnelian bird elemental the sun's encircle is mounted on the turn become a member armlet. Mover noticed that the bird corresponded in form with one that statistics as an protest march to Time 86 of the Usher of the Over and done with and is called menet in the simulate. The word is alleged to mean a gulp down, but Mover famous this bird as an Egyptian likely to (CYPSELLUS PALLIDUS), the two fowl years sometimes muddled in goody-goody texts.

The legend of the chapter is "WEAR FOR ASSUMING THE FORM OF A MENET BIRD" and it ends with the words "WHOEVER KNOWS THIS SPELL CAN GO FORTH BY DAY IMPERFECT PUT YOUR THUMB OUT AT ANY ADMISSION IN THE STATUS OF THE DEAD AND HE CAN ENTRUST THE FORM OF A MENET BIRD. IT HAS SURELY BEEN EFFICACIOUS MILLIONS OF EPOCH." Tutankhamun, by the habitation of the armlet, may sing your own praises hoped to enjoy this freedom. Swifts, according to Mover, remaining in generous colonies in the cliffs adjoining the Nile route and fly broadsheet to the river, inveterate in the sunset.

It was this particularity, he deliberation, that the ancient Egyptians regarded as analogous to the broadsheet be born of the dead from their tombs and their return at twilight. Together with the aid of magic they may perhaps entrust the form of the bird and perceive its mode of life.

Remark from escape the dead with an image concerning which they may perhaps be metamorphosed, the menet bird symbolized a unclear deity who was related with the locality of the Theban necropolis and to whom artisans and kin of the focus classes sometimes looked for help and approaching their prayers.

Sunday 29 June 2008 How To Use A Pendulum

How To Use A Pendulum
Pendulums are one of the easiest and quickest ways to perform divination. Pendulums have been used for centuries as means to divine the future and to find out answers to pressing questions that people would like to have answers for.

Even though pendulums are easy to use in a sense, there is much more to diving through pendulums then meets the eye.

In order to perform a pendulum reading properly, steps should be taken and considered before you begin to ask your questions to the pendulum.

This article will explain all the necessary steps, measures, and routines that should be used before you begin to divine with your pendulum.

Step 1: Choosing Your Pendulum

Pendulums come in many different shapes and sizes as well as materials that are used to craft and make them. Some popular pendulums include gemstone pendulums, metal pendulums, and wood pendulums.

Gemstone pendulums are made from actual gemstones and not only do they contain the energies of the stones that they are made from, but they also are best suited for pendulum divination because these energies inside the stones will cause the pendulum to swing stronger giving you a more clear answer to your questions. Gemstones are also very pure forms of energy as long as they are properly cleansed.

Metal pendulums are often made from brass, chrome, pewter, or steel. These pendulums are the next best pendulums to use after gemstones as the magnetic energies that many of these metals provide can give a strong swing to your pendulum bringing more clarification to your answers.

Wood pendulums are made from various woods and are normally hand carved. Wood is not the best medium to use for pendulums since they do not hold energy rather well and can often be weak when they swing back and forth.

Whatever pendulum type you use or decide to buy, make sure the pendulum is solid though not too heavy. The heavier your pendulum is, the harder it would be for it to swing. Like wise, you do not want a pendulum that is too light either.

Many people also like to use necklaces with pendants for pendulums. Even though this can be done and the jewelry will swing back and forth like a traditional pendulum, the SHAPE of the pendulum is a key reason why traditional pendulums are preferred over jewelry.

Traditional pendulums are shaped in a certain way to specifically aid with divination. Many pendulums are shaped to where they have a point at the end. This point represents the end of the channeling energies that are being passed from you(the diviner) to the pendulum.

If you use necklaces with pendants instead of an actual pendulum, you may find that your answers are inconsistent and wrong. Even though the energies are there making the necklace and pendant move like a pendulum, they are not being channeled correctly because the needed centered point is not there to complete the energy transfer.

For this reason it is best to use traditional pendulum shapes for your pendulums for most accurate results.

Step 2 Cleanse Your Pendulum

Once you have your pendulum of choice, it is always wise and advised to cleanse it before you perform any form of divination with it.

The easiest and most simple way to cleanse your pendulum would be to take some sage incense or a sage smudge stick and light them to where they are smoking well. Take your pendulum and pass it through the smoke several times. You can perform a prayer as you pass the pendulum through the smoke for added benefit if you choose.

Another way for cleansing would be to make up a salt water bath for it. If your pendulum is made from a gemstone this is a good method for cleansing. Take some cold water and mix it with some salt, preferably purification salts, though dead sea salt can also be used. Dunk your pendulum into the water several times and then when finished, dry it off very well.

For metal and wood pendulums this is not a good method as the salt can damage your pendulum, so the sage smoke cleansing method would be better suited for these pendulums.

Step 3 Use Your Pendulum

After you have cleansed your pendulum it is time for you to use it. Before you use a pendulum it is always best to ensure that you perform a protection ritual or spell before hand. The reasons for this is because when using any form of divination tools such as crystal balls, scrying mirrors, or pendulums, you are opening door ways not only to your subconscious, but also to the spirit world. Spirits often are summoned through divination whether intentionally or unintentionally to aid the seeker in finding their answers.

Even if you are not calling out to the spirits for aid, they will still be attracted to the divination tool because it is a doorway from their realm to ours and they often try to step through with or without our permission. This often leads to negative entities and demonic presences that can sometimes use these tools as a means to attack the seeker.

If you choose to neglect the protection ritual or spell, then be warned that you are at risk of attracting unwanted energies to you.

Take your pendulum by the chain or attached medium and hold it inbetween your index finder and thumb. Rest your arm that is holding the pendulum on a table or firm surface by the elbow and let the pendulum dangle loosely. Ensure that there is enough slack for it to swing freely and without obstruction.

Make sure your hand holding the pendulum is steady and does not move at all, also ensure that pendulum will not be influenced in any way by things such as a fan, open window, or air conditioning unit.

Once you are ready, close your eyes and clear your mind as best you can. It is important that you keep your mind blank. Try to envision however your subconscious mind opening up, almost like a door is opening in the back of your mind. Imagine energy coming out of this open door and shooting up from your mind and into the pendulum.

Try to focus on this for several minutes. The intention of this exercise is to charge the pendulum with your energy, by charging you are making the pendulum more powerful and more accurate.

Once you feel the pendulum is charged enough, open your eyes slowly, and stare at the pendulum, focus on the pendulum point(the end of the pendulum) and then ask the pendulum to show you what it's response will be to a "yes" answer for a question you ask.

For example, you can ask your pendulum "Show me Yes." after you say this, wait and watch which way your pendulum will swing. Some pendulums will swing either back and forth or circular. Whichever way it goes in response to that question will be it's direction for "yes". Do the same for "no"("Show me No") and ensure that the pendulum stops COMPLETELY then begins to turn in the opposite direction. This will then be "no".

Once you have seen the directions in which your pendulum is moving for yes and no answers, you can then begin to ask your questions. Begin by asking obvious questions such as..."do i work at..." or "is my name...." if the pendulum is correct in these answers then ask the questions that want an answer for.

It is always important when you ask your question to try and keep your mind BLANK when you ask. If you focus on the question you can influence the swing of the pendulum with your conscious mind, and it is the subconscious that you want to answer since the subconscious mind is the higher state of mind and holds the true answers that you seek.

If spirits are aiding you in your answers, the pendulum may vary well swing very strongly depending on the strength of the spirit. Spirits however are notorious for giving bad and inaccurate answers on purpose. If it is a good and helpful spirit this can be one of the best ways to get an accurate answers to your question. If however, you have a mischievous or malevolent spirit, they will purposefully make your pendulum reading frustrating and possibly even dangerous.

Tuesday 24 June 2008 New Class Cultist Of Llorc

New Class Cultist Of Llorc
Cultists are the equivalent of clerics in the Johnstown Campaign. There are some major differences between the two. Namely, the cultist is granted a number of powers (rather than spells) that can be used repeatedly. "What? "you may be thinkin'. "Unlimited heals and blessings?" Well, sort of. You see the gods of the Boondocks are, frankly, capitalists. And they expect to get paid for every little boon they offer. Roaming cultists are like insurance salesman. Sure, they may be oddly friendly and gregarious, but let's face it: "they just want your coin".The vast majority of cultists are 0-level initiates. These are not entitled to powers and have only limited access to cult property and benefits. Initiates usually have day-jobs. They might be the local blacksmith or scribe or any other average schmoe in town. Your typical idol-worshipers, in other words, who have been "initiated" into the basic mysteries of the cult. Disciplehood begins at 1st level. Most of these guys and gals have been indoctrinated since childhood in the various teachings and dogmas associated with the cult. They have a "special relationship" with the deity and exist to serve it/him/her. Disciples are often wanderers and pilgrims who seek new converts and new sources of wealth for their temples. They are entitled to free room and board at the temple -- though they may be conscripted to perform certain duties during their stay. Disciples are commonly called Brothers and Sisters. A single temple will have anywhere from twenty to fifty disciples. At 5th level the cultist has earned the right to be part of the Inner Circle and is now known as an archdisciple. Each cult has its own particular archdisciple benefits. Often (but not always) these include total access to the cult's library. Additionally, archdisciples are permitted to construct shrines (see below). Typically there are eleven or twenty-one members in an Inner Circle, not including the Temple Master.A 9th level cultist is bestowed with the title of Temple Master. These guys can grant disciplehood and have permission to use any/all wealth they accumulate to build a temple or occupy an existing temple as its Master (provided that the position is currently vacant).Cultist of Llorc REQUIREMENTS: Must be Lawful NeutralPRIME REQUISITE: WISHIT DICE: 1d6 Brother CheldinAn ordained servant of Llorc, the Horned God of Good Fortunes, is charged with the task of spreading the news of the Three Prophecies, gathering converts to the faith, and accumulating wealth for the cult's temples. The vestments of Llorc's servants are typically a dark green cowl verging on black. The cult abhors the ostentatious and considers symbols of status unseemly. In their minds such things "test the patience of Llorc." The cult's traditional weapon is the cudgel or mace.Cultists attack, save, and require experience in the same manner as clerics.Cult temples are solemn and often silent -- the main exception being during the nightly chants which are a central part of the cult's services. To ask something of Llorc, something must be given in return. Disciples live by this maxim and must donate 50% of their wealth to the temple coffers to stay in the Horned God's good graces. In exchange cultists are allowed to operate under the "aegis of Llorc". The aegis provides certain social and mystical benefits: * It is taboo to murder a disciple of Llorc, and it is widely believed that misfortune and suffering will befall any being who commits such an act. * Any who refuse a traveling disciple lodging for the night risk the disfavor of Llorc. * Once per week a disciple may sit before an altar of Llorc and request a number of "boons". Boons (or powers) are roughly equivalent to a cleric's spells. The disciple can ask for a number of boon-levels equivalent to his current experience. For example, a 3rd level disciple can ask for three 1st level boons, or one 1st and one 2nd, or a single 3rd level boon. Boons can be used repeatedly throughout the week, but never more than a number of times equivalent to the cultist's experience level per day. In the case of boons that benefit another person, it is necessary that the one who benefits pay a tithe of "x" GP directly to the cultist or a temple of Llorc within the week, where "x" is ten times the level of the boon performed. Failure to pay this tithe within the week will render the character an "infidel". Infidels are forsaken by Llorc. Any boons cast on an infidel will have no effect (this does not count as a loss of the cultist's boons per day). After the seven days have passed, the disciple is without boons and must return to an altar of Llorc to pray for another week's worth. [Note that under normal circumstances, the cultist selects the boons. In certain cases, the deity may grant an additional, special boon as a reward or sign of favor.] * Disciples can turn undead like clerics. They may also turn lycanthropes.Shrines are places of worship that -- like temples -- contain altars. To construct a shrine, a cultist must be at least fifth level. Building costs are 1,200 GP or more depending on the location.

Saint Marina The Great Martyr As A Model For Our Lives

Saint Marina The Great Martyr As A Model For Our Lives
St. Quay the Extensive Victim (Feast Day - July 17)By Protopresbyter Fr. George PapavarnavasThe company of a saint is an critical participant for the Place of worship, and prominently for a District which celebrates and is honored by the saint to whom the sacred church was tough at the same time as blessed, and it is an destiny of joy and socializing in the midst of its members. As is overfriendly, the day of the anniversary of a saint is chosen by the Place of worship based on the day of their leave from this absurd world, like it is a day in which they are "uneducated" in eternal divine life, which they as well erudition in this life. This shows that the saints, in close proximity all inhabit, dart to most recent in the wake of the leave of their soul from their chest and this is evidenced by their incorrupt remainder, which produce off a whiff and work miracles. Throughout their secular life, they struggled to become existential communion with the Holy Triune God, and this is why they crushed the devil and dispelled his "scheming" with the power of the Plasticity of God that dwells within them. In some iconography Saint Quay is depicted holding the devil by the horns, contemptible him and shaming him. This shows that the devil is incapable, while with the power of Christ he can be crushed and inhabit who chime falling apart can discredit him, even sorry children.Saint Quay was uneducated in Antioch of Pisidia hip the decide of Queen Claudius II (270 A.D.). Her mother died a few days in the wake of her genesis, and her recoil, who was a pagan priest, instructed that she be raised by a just the thing insect not up to scratch, of course, realizing that she was a Christian. In this way Saint Quay was educated the truth of the Gospel from a young age, and at the age of fifteen she revealed to her recoil that she was a Christian. At preliminary he was inquiring, and thus he was angry and bitter, ceasing from that time predicament to regard her as his child. It did not handle yearn for the superintendent Olymbrius to be experienced of this, so he methodical her drawback. But at the same time as he saw her, he was dazzled by her beauty and asked her to be his wife, as yearn as she preliminary denied Christ. She hotly refused, and to any verve to develop her to disown her desire and to reverence idols, she replied boldly: "I am a Christian." He thus methodical that she be painful troubled. They tore at her flesh with sticks, they hung her and locked up her, and like she nonetheless remained companionship in her desire they burned her with lit candles. However, her wounds were healed momentary, with the outcome that countless of individuals in attendance who saw the miracle came to have confidence in in Christ. Consequently the superintendent, blinded by abhorrence, methodical that she be decapitated, and in this way she was perfected and conventional the pinnacle of martyrdom. The life and quality of Saint Quay gives us the boulevard to make more noticeable the following:All of God's creations are "very good". The evil that exists in the world is not a initiation of God, but the outcome of sin, the misbehavior of culture to the behest of God and their apostasy from eternal divine life.Demons were angels of light (the cherubic order of Lucifer), but they hack from the Plasticity of God and became darkened like of their hollowness. They try with assorted ways and with assorted perfect to magnetism inhabit off from God. But they cannot sting someone, unless someone delivers themselves to them rudely, for this is how our self-rule is tested, desire is strengthened, the behest becomes trimming powerful, and we capture in spiritual sprint with greater zeal. But we as well learn to pray, like in temptations inhabit are wont to alternative to God, the Panagia and the saints and to effort their resistance and protection. Correspondingly the devil, innocently, becomes a protester of prayer.Straight away, sorrowfully, impart is the sad amazement of the display of young inhabit, even children, with the reverence of Satan and everything alike with it, with the music that praises the devil or they dress as demons, etc. But even countless of the literal, as well as Clergy, make happy, as evidenced by their written and everyday words, to deem themselves trimming with the devil and the antichrist than with Christ, creating mistake in the midst of inhabit, but as well problem in young children and individuals with weaker desire. The preaching of the Place of worship must be flattering and Christ-centered, which gadget that it must broadcast the outlook of Christ, to fortify who Christ is and how one can become existential communion with Him. In other words, not virtuously that He is a good man, or a protester, or a social disordered, as some hug, but that He is the God-man Lord, the Pass quickly Personage of the Holy Trinity, Who whereas value God, was incarnated and became value man, in order to cut down the works of the devil, and redeem man from the oppression of his sin, the devil and death. Communion with Christ is achieved in the Place of worship amid observance, the sacramental life and shortage.Worthlessness distances man from the Place of worship and the true reverence of God and pushes him to reverence, on purpose or involuntarily, the devil. Comparatively, meekness achieves "come first leader the devil" and liberator.Source: "Ekklesiastiki Paremvasi", , July 2006. Translated by John Sanidopoulos.

'And, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.' Exodus 3:1It was a very sharp descent from Pharaoh's palace to the wilderness, and forty years of a shepherd's life were a strange contrast to the brilliant future that once seemed likely for Moses. But God tests His weapons before He uses them, and great men are generally prepared for great deeds by great sorrows. Solitude is 'the mother- country of the strong,' and the wilderness, with its savage crags, its awful silence, and the unbroken round of its blue heaven, was a better place to meet God than in the heavy air of a palace, or the profitless splendours of a court. So as this lonely shepherd is passing slowly in front of his flock, he sees a strange light that asserted itself, even in the brightness of the desert sunshine. 'The bush' does not mean one single shrub. Rather, it implies some little group, or cluster, or copse, of the dry thorny acacias, which are characteristic of the country, and over which any ordinary fire would have passed like a flash, leaving them all in grey ashes. But this steady light persists long enough to draw the attention of the shepherd, and to admit of his travelling some distance to reach it. And then-and then-the Lord speaks. The significance of this bush, burning but not consumed, is my main subject now, for I think it carries great and blessed lessons for us. Now, first, I do not think that the bush burning but not consumed, stands as it is ordinarily understood to stand, for the symbolical representation of the preservation of Israel, even in the midst of the fiery furnace of persecution and sorrow. Beautiful as that idea is, I do not think it is the true explanation; because if so, this symbol is altogether out of keeping with the law that applies to all the rest of the symbolical accompaniments of divine appearances, all of which, without exception, set forth in symbol some truth about God, and not about His Church; and all of which, without exception, are a representation in visible and symbolical form of the same truth which was proclaimed in articulate words along with them. The symbol and the accompanying voice of God in all other cases have one and the same meaning. That, I think, is the case here also; and we learn from the Bush, not something about God's Church, however precious that may be, but what is a great deal more important, something about God Himself; namely, the same thing that immediately afterwards was spoken in articulate words. In the next place, let me observe that the fire is distinctly a divine symbol, a symbol of God not of affliction, as the ordinary explanation implies. I need not do more than remind you of the stream of emblem which runs all through Scripture, as confirming this point. There are the smoking lamp and the blazing furnace in the early vision granted to Abraham. There is the pillar of fire by night, that lay over the desert camp of the wandering Israelites. There is Isaiah's word, 'The light of Israel shall be a flaming fire.' There is the whole of the New Testament teaching, turning on the manifestation of God through His Spirit. There are John the Baptist's words, 'He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire.' There is the day of Pentecost, when the 'tongues of fire sat upon each of them.' And what is meant by the great word of the Epistle to the Hebrews, 'Our God is a consuming fire'? Not Israel only, but many other lands-it would scarcely be an exaggeration to say, all other lands-have used the same emblem with the same meaning. In almost every religion on the face of the earth, you will find a sacred significance attached to fire. That significance is not primarily destruction, as we sometimes suppose, an error which has led to ghastly misunderstandings of some Scriptures, and of the God whom they reveal. When, for instance, Isaiah (xxxiii.14) asks, 'Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings?' he has been supposed to be asking what human soul is there that can endure the terrors of God's consuming and unending wrath. But a little attention to the words would have shown that 'the devouring fire' and the 'everlasting burnings' mean God and not hell, and that the divine nature is by them not represented as too fierce to be approached, but as the true dwelling-place of men, which indeed only the holy can inhabit, but which for them is life. Precisely parallel is the Psalmist's question, 'Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord, and who shall stand in His holy place?' Fire is the source of warmth, and so, in a sense, of life. It is full of quick energy, it transmutes all kinds of dead matter into its own ruddy likeness, sending up the fat of the sacrifices in wreathes of smoke that aspire heavenward; and changing all the gross, heavy, earthly dullness into flame, more akin to the heaven into which it rises. Therefore, as cleansing, as the source of life, light, warmth, change, as glorifying, transmuting, purifying, refining, fire is the fitting symbol of the mightiest of all creative energy. And the Bible has consecrated the symbolism, and bade us think of the Lord Himself as the central fiery Spirit of the whole universe, a spark from whom irradiates and vitalises everything that lives. Nor should we forget, on the other side, that the very felicity of this emblem is, that along with all these blessed thoughts of life- giving and purifying, there does come likewise the more solemn teaching of God's destructive power. 'What maketh heaven, that maketh hell'; and the same God is the fire to quicken, to sanctify, to bless; and resisted, rejected, neglected, is the fire that consumes; the savour of life unto life, or the savour of death unto death. And then, still further, notice that this flame is undying-steady, unflickering. What does that mean? Adopting the principle which I have already taken as our guide, that the symbol and the following oral revelation teach the same truth, there can be no question as to that answer. 'I am the God of thy fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob. 'I AM THAT I AM.' That is to say, the fire that burns and does not burn out, which has no tendency to destruction in its very energy, and is not consumed by its own activity, is surely a symbol of the one Being whose being derives its law and its source from Himself, who only can say-'I AM THAT I AM'-the law of His nature, the foundation of His being, the only conditions of His existence being, as it were, enclosed within the limits of His own nature. You and I have to say, 'I am that which I have become,' or 'I am that which I was born,' or 'I am that which circumstances have made me.' He says, 'I AM THAT I AM.' All other creatures are links; this is the staple from which they all hang. All other being is derived, and therefore limited and changeful; this Being is underived, absolute, self-dependent, and therefore unalterable for evermore. Because we live we die. In living the process is going on of which death is the end. But God lives for evermore, a flame that does not burn out; therefore His resources are inexhaustible, His power unwearied. He needs no rest for recuperation of wasted energy. His gifts diminish not the store which He has to bestow. He gives, and is none the poorer; He works, and is never weary; He operates unspent; He loves, and He loves for ever; and through the ages the fire burns on, unconsumed and undecayed. O brethren! is not that a revelation-familiar as it sounds to our ears now, blessed be God!-is not that a revelation of which, when we apprehend the depth and the preciousness, we may well fix an unalterable faith upon it, and feel that for us, in our fleeting days and shadowy moments, the one means to secure blessedness, rest, strength, life, is to grasp and knit ourselves to Him who lives for ever, and whose love is lasting as His life? 'The eternal God, the Lord... fainteth not, neither is weary. They that wait upon Him shall renew their strength.' The last thought suggested to me by this symbol is this. Regarding the lowly thorn-bush as an emblem of Israel-which unquestionably it is, though the fire be the symbol of God-in the fact that the symbolical manifestation of the divine energy lived in so lowly a shrine, and flamed in it, and preserved it by its burning, there is a great and blessed truth. It is the same truth which Jesus Christ, with a depth of interpretation that put to shame the cavilling listeners, found in the words that accompanied this vision: 'I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.' He said to the sneering Sadducees, who, like all other sneerers, saw only the surface of what they were sarcastic about, 'Did not Moses teach you,' in the section about the bush, 'that the dead rise, when he said: I AM the God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob.' A man, about whom it can once be said that God is his God, cannot die. Such a bond can never be broken. The communion of earth, imperfect as it is, is the prophecy of Heaven and the pledge of immortality. And so from that relationship which subsisted between the fathers and God, Christ infers the certainty of their resurrection. It seems a great leap, but there are intervening steps not stated by our Lord, which securely bridge the gulf between the premises and the conclusion. Such communion is, in its very nature, unaffected by the accident of death, for it cannot be supposed that a man who can say that God is "His" God can be reduced to nothingness, and such a bond be snapped by such a cause. Therefore Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are still living, 'for all' those whom we call dead, as well as those whom we call living, 'live unto Him,' and though so many centuries have passed, God still "is", not "was", their God. The relation between them is eternal and guarantees their immortal life. But immortality without corporeity is not conceivable as the perfect state, and if the dead live still, there must come a time when the whole man shall partake of redemption; and in body, soul, and spirit the glorified and risen saints shall be 'for ever with the Lord.' That is but the fuller working out of the same truth that is taught us in the symbol 'the bush burned and was not consumed.' God dwelt in it, therefore it flamed; God dwelt in it, therefore though it flamed it never flamed out. Or in other words, the Church, the individual in whom He dwells, partakes of the immortality of the indwelling God. 'Every one shall be salted with fire,' which shall be preservative and not destructive; or, as Christ has said, 'Because I live ye shall live also.' Humble as was the little, ragged, sapless thorn-bush, springing up and living its solitary life amidst the sands of the desert, it was not too humble to hold God; it was not too gross to burst into flame when He came; it was not too fragile to be gifted with undying being; like His that abode in it. And for us each the emblem may be true. If He dwell in us we shall live as long as He lives, and the fire that He puts in our heart shall be a fountain of fire springing up into life everlasting

What Do You Worship Guest Post
Alex McCauslin is a young seminarian and ministry intern at Central Woodward Christian Church. One of Alex's assignments is to work with our young adults to create a YA community. In a posting at her own blog, Alex writes about her encounter with a young woman who was cutting her hair. This conversation about God, church, and worship raises some intriguing questions. We know that an increasing number of young adults are listed as "Nones." That is, they simply don't identify with any religious community or tradition. That doesn't mean they don't believe in God or that they're not interested in spiritual things, they just don't have a "place" to put these beliefs. I'd like to use Alex's reflections as a starting point for an important conversation about faith, worship, and a world that feels disconnected to what happens in religious communities.

This experience has been rattling around in my head for the last week. I am puzzled by it, still.

I recently had my hair cut. The woman cutting my hair was in her early twenties (around my age.) She asked what I was doing with my life, and, of course, I eventually admitted I was studying at Seminary and working for a church.

"So, what religion are you?" She asked.

"I'm Disciples of Christ, it's Protestant, like Methodists."

She stared blankly at me and said, "I had a neighbor who was a Mormon and I went to church with her once."

"We're not quite like the Mormons," I said.

"I don't know. I mean, I'm a Christian."

"Oh, yeah? What church did you go to?"

She shrugged. "I've never been to church, just youth group with my friends when I was in high school."

"Cool, what kind of youth group?"

Again, a blank stare. "I don't know, we just, like, hung out with our friends and talked about stuff. I didn't really like it that much, so I stopped going."

I nodded, and, deciding that the conversation was headed nowhere, stopped asking questions about church and started asking questions about her aspirations as a stylist.

Later, after a short lull in our conversation, she returned to the topic of religion. "So you work at a church? What do you do there?"

I told her that I was currently putting together an alternative worship service on Sunday evenings.

She frowned and stopped cutting my hair. "If you don't mind me asking, what do you worship there?"

I didn't even know what to say. I'd never been asked such a question before, and certainly never by someone who'd claimed to be a Christian.

I told her that we praised God and prayed to Jesus. That we contemplated our purpose, especially as it related to communities that suffered poverty and other oppression.

"That's cool," she said and pressed on asking questions about how we actually tried to help people. Eventually she admitted that she had given up trying to make a difference, as she had realized it wasn't really possible.

As she was walking me to the front desk to pay for my haircut, she brought up the topic of religion a third time, out of the blue and with urgency. "I think I'm a really spiritual person! I just don't know much about the church. It's not really for me, I don't think."

I've heard this comment before. I don't know what to do with it. Is the church not doing its job? Or is it becoming obsolete to upper-middle class Americans?

I don't know what to do with the fact that Christians, perhaps myself included, aren't prepared to answer the question, "What do you worship?" I've been thoroughly prepared to answer questions of why or how. But 'what' completely threw me off my game.

What do we worship?

ETA: Just went to lunch with a friend who started a new job as Youth Director at a suburban church. She has been observing their current Youth Group program and has concluded that it centers around gossip and chilling. She is appalled and eager to create change.

Service And The Spiritual Path
SERVICE & THE SPIRITUAL PATH

September 29, 2006

I looked at the "new non-fiction books" at my #1 library the other day and decided I would have to tease the librarians that they needed to buy some more new books because I couldn't find anything more there to read. Just when I was about to give up, I found Joseph Dispenza's "God On Your Own: Finding A Spiritual Path Outside Religion" (San Francisco: Jossey-Bass, 2006). I found Dispenza's story and perspectives interesting, and food for thought. He entered a "silent monastery" right out of high school and stayed there eight years, having all his needs provided, including higher education. When he moved on, it was to teach at the university level. He is currently one of the leaders of Lifepath Retreats, most or all of which are at San Miguel De Allende, Mexico (www.lifepathretreats.com and www.joseph dispenza.com).

I want to share some inspiring, yet challenging words from Chapter 11: "Service. Reading the word, you may wonder how something called service would unfold in your life, busy as it is, devoted as it is to your own pressing pursuits.... It [spiritual service] may require only a shift in how you view your life and its place in the world.... It's through service to others that you find why you are here on this particular planet in this particular body at this particular time. A spiritual path that does not connect to the idea of service is not a spiritual path at all.... It [spiritual service] is more like an attitude: You continue doing what you are doing and lift it to the spiritual level by making the intention to do all that you do in the service of others.... "What can I contribute to the world?"... Wherever your spiritual path is taking you, it must end in fullfillment of your highest potential through service to others."

I Am Angel-Light. I Am That I Am. I am supported by donations of persons who appreciate my presence and service in this dimension.

Gryphons Background Notes

Gryphons Background Notes
" The next two articles will be some information that should probably have come first for this series. I always do things bass-ackward around here! This information will largely be about thinking and theories on just what the "imaginal realm" is, if indeed there is one-I believe there is. Henry Corbin (14 April 1903-7 October 1978) was a philosopher, theologian, and professor of Islamic Studies at the Sorbonne in Paris. As a boy he had a profound sensitivity to music. Although he was born a Protestant he was educated in the Catholic tradition and at the age of 19, received a certificate in Scholastic Philosophy from the Catholic Institute of Paris. Three years later he received his "licence de philosophie" under the great Thomist (the philosophical school that arose a a legacy to the work and thought of St. Thomas Aquinas) Etienne Gilson.

In 1928 he encountered the formidable Louis Massignon, director of Islamic Studies at the Sorbonne, and he introduced Corbin to the writings of "SUHRAWARDI", the 12th century Persian philosopher and mystic whose work was to have a huge impact on Corbin's life. The stage was set for a personal drama that had deep signficance for understanding those cultures whose roots lie in both ancient Greece and the prophetic relgions of the Near East going all the way back to Zoroaster.

Years later Corbin said, "through my meeting with Suhrawardi, my spiritual destiny for the passage through this world was sealed. Platonism, expressed in terms of the Zoroastrian angelology of ancient Persia, illuminated the path that I was seeking."

Corbin is responsible for redirecting the study of Islamic philosophy as a whole. In his "HISTOIRE DE LA PHILOSOPHIE ISLAMIQUE" (1964), he disproved the common view that philosophy among the Muslims came to an end after "IBN RUSHD", demonstrating rather that a lively philosophical activity persisted in the Muslim World-especially Iran and continues to our own time. The philosophical work or Corbin can be divided into 3 phases. The first is the 1920s and 1930s, when he was involved in learning and teaching western philosophy. The second is the years between 1939 and 1946, in which he studied "SHAHAB AL-DIN SUHRAWARDI" and the "SCHOOL OF ILLUMINATION" in Istanbul. The last begins at 1946 until his death, in which he studied and reintroduced eastern and Islamic philosophy.

It is the second and last phases of Corbin's life that are most important to us. In 1949, Corbin first attended the annual "ERANOS CONFERENCES" in Ascona, Switzerland, where he was to become a major figure along with "CARL JUNG, MIRCEA ELIADE, GERSHOM SCHOLEM, ADOLF PORTMANN" and many others. In 1954, he succeeded Louis Massignon in the Chair of Islam and the Religions of Arabia. From the 1950s he spent autumn in Tehran, winter in Paris and spring is Ascona.

The 3 major works upon which his reputation is largely based in the English speaking world were first published in French in the 1950s: "AVICENNA AND THE VISIONARY RECITAL, CREATIVE IMAGINATION" in the Sufiism of "IBN 'ARABI'" and "SPIRITUAL BODY the other comes to us as a "real" place. Corbin used the term "MUNDIS IMAGINALIS" (imaginary realm) to differentiate between the "imaginary" (i.e. something equated with the unreal or with fantasy) and the "imaginal" (i.e. a world that is ontologically as real as the world we know from our senses and intellect). Something imaginary is "made up" and comes from us, whereas the imaginal comes to us from another realm. The difference would be that of thinking about some fantastic thing like a pink elephant wearing a tutu (imaginary)-and having a dream image of that same elephant (from the imaginal realm).

In Corbin's view and that of Jungian philosophy the motifs, symbols and images that come from the "MUNDUS IMAGINALIS" are a reality in some dimension other than the sensible and intellectual dimensions that we are more likely to encounter in our workaday world-and that we have been taught (in some societies, like Pavlov's dogs) to value and respect. This concept can be a very difficult one to accept for a person grounded in the materialist and rationalistic perspective. The most unlikely of saviors, however, science is starting to provide a framework for understanding these other realms of being. It can't be stressed enough-and maybe I have gone too far in this blog with these ideas-that science can only take us so far. God, Godhead or Transcendence will never be found in a particle accelerator (although maybe some other things will;-).

These other realms can also be experienced through dreams, prayers, meditation or even when we are moved by some powerful image in our own culture, such as from a film, book, or even the news. I am often very moved by either "real" stories on the news etc-or completely "fictional" stories in books (some books I have read are so good it makes me wonder-only half jokingly here-that the places and characters described in the book might really exist somewhere in some form!). Music also moves my spirit tremendously at times. When an image does make itself known to us, we may be inspired, awestruck, surprised puzzled, or very touched emotionally. Overall these images awaken or stir an emotion or feeling in us.

Looked at from Jungian or archetypal psychology, we are supposed to work with these images not interpret them. Dr. Carl Jung believed that the soul and image/archetype were one and the same. They exist as a mediating factor between body and mind. As a mediating factor, soul/image allows the integration of the body and the mind, which have been so long separated in dualistic consciousness since Descartes, although the split goes back even further in time. Henry Corbin went further in his later work and said that images are the thoughts of the heart and that the heart is the seat of the imagination, which in turn is the true voice of the heart. To speak from the heart is to speak imaginatively. The English poet John Keats said, "I am certain about nothing but the holiness of the hearts affections and the truth of the imagination."

I hope to be back again today with another article -hopefully a bit shorter than this one and to catch up with friends! It is lawyer time now. This is just a strategy meeting and not the actual hearing. All the best to anyone stopping by! I wanted to mention also before I go that there are many fantastic links and comments in the comments section of this blog. Thanks again for all of your intelligent, thoughtful comments and great links and information!

Ethics Question Love Spells And Link Exchanges
Here's a question of ethics I've been mulling over - and I thought the best idea was to blog about it to see what others think.

A few days ago I got an email with this request from a link manager, Prachi Goel:

At this present moment, I am seeking meaningful links from quality websites just like yours, for a current project on behalf of www.nowspells.com and www.saulat.com. As you will see, this is based upon a similar theme to yours and does in my view, offer added value content for web site visitors. It isn't the first time I've had a request like this, and I replied in the way I normally do, saying simply:

I am not interested at all thanks.I wasn't expecting to hear any more about it, but Prachi replied and here is how the email conversation went:

PRACHI: May I know the reason for not interested in link exchange ?

ME: I do not promote businesses that sell spells.

PRACHI: OK which theme link you need for link exchange?

ME: Non-profit making pagan organisations, preferably in England, or very small pagan supplies retailers with physical shops in London, England.

PRACHI: I respect your policy that you can accept only London base non profit organization website. But If you can place my client link on your site so your visitor also get advantage of my spells services. I also put your link back on my link page so my visitor also get advantage of your services. Your traffic will be increase. I can not force to you but it will be mutually beneficial for both of us. We both are belong to same industry and inter link exchange is an important part of Internet marketing. If you wish i can add your link on witch related site only so i can arrange that theme site back. I have PR 2+ witch craft related site. I am waiting for your reply...

ME: Prachi, No, I do not promote businesses that sell spells. I write a non-profit-making blog which is aimed at giving high quality information to pagans in London, I do not sell goods or services, so there is little benefit to me from increasing traffic to my site in the way you suggest. I do not approve of selling spells. The spells I list on my blog are all free.I really thought that would be it, but I then got another reply from Prachi, who said: "I am sending to you one nice article which one helpful for increasing your site ranking."

Well, I really had to give Prachi 10 out of 10 for effort, and I will be quoting his article further on so you can read what it said, but first I thought I would blog about my thoughts on online services selling love spells. The first and main reason that I am rather opposed to such spell-selling businesses is that a long time ago a friend of mine spent her savings paying for spell-casting services after her boyfriend walked out on her. She didn't get her errant lover back. Personally, I thought she had wasted her money.

Of course I am not saying that no one ever gets their lover back, I just think there are better ways of going about it - such as perhaps chatting to a relationship counsellor. If you are going to use magic to help the situation, I am a firm believer that you should cast spells for yourself rather than pay someone you have never even met to perform a service you have no proof they have actually put much effort into.

Another factor is that many Wiccans consider it unethical to cast a love spell to try to control the actions of another person without their permission. They see that type of coercion as being just as wrong as using physical force to have your way with someone. However, I feel doing a spell to try to get the opportunity for romance with a person you fancy - or to rekindle a passion - is OK, so long as you add a line that says something like, "If it be their will too," or simply, "An it harm none."

I do have a lot of sympathy for anyone whose lover has dumped them. It is absolutely heartbreaking - and it has happened to me in the past. One evening, quite out of the blue, my live-in partner of 10 years came home from work and announced he was leaving me because he had fallen in love with someone else. That was it, the relationship was over. I was devastated.

Of course, initially, I wanted him to return to me and say he was sorry. Yes, I did magic - but not magic to get my old boyfriend back. The spell I cast asked for happiness in love before the end of the year - and I got it. Within a month, I was in a blissful and passionate romance with someone new. That new someone became my husband a few years later and we have now been married for 10 very happy years.

My real advice to anyone in that situation is to cast a spell with similar wording to mine - just ask for happiness in love, not for a specific person. Think about it carefully. What do you really want? Do you just want your old lover back regardless, even if the relationship will be miserable and full of rows, resentment and suspicions? Or would you rather be happy? Your call, of course.

Anyway, I promised I would share the article that Prachi took the effort to write for my blog. Here it is:

LOVE CHARMS

Love is a very significant part of each one of our lives, it can make and destroy. Falling in love is easy but being able to keep up with it is what is difficult. At some point or the other you need a magical power that will help you maintain the true love. This unique magical power is through love spells that have proven to be very effective. However it is believed that only when a real caster casts the love spells or any other spells, you obtain the best results.

You must be aware of the increasing market of scammers. They are biggest threat to true spell casters and the whole issue of love spell. Today there are so many frauds who claim to be real casters for love spells, but fail to deliver. It is fascinating that a real caster of love spell does a complete psychic reading before the spell. It is important to ensure that you are aware of the whole situation and are prepared for the same. There are many people who have been casting spells for years and are well experienced. Only those are the ones whose spells prove to be miracle in disguise.

There are a number of types of different love spells that can be cast. Some of the prominent and important ones are:

o MARRIAGE LOVE SPELL: this is considered to be one of the most powerful love spell. It ensures that your lover will admit to a marriage proposal and it also saves a marriage that is falling apart. None of us can deny the importance of getting married to someone and staying with the same person. It helps you keep the marriage alive inspite and despite of the issues you might currently be facing.

o LOST LOVER SPELL: if you had a break up or lost your love this spell makes sure that he comes back to you. It ensures that you stay in a relationship much longer than it would have stayed otherwise. There also gets to a point where you can also have a possibility of spending your life together.

o BEST CHEATERS LOVE SPELL: this is a love spell for those who cheat on their partner. It ensures that you partner stops cheating from that very day.

o ATTRACTION LOVE SPELL: this spell is regarded as the best spell that most people cast before falling in relationships. The fact is sometimes we suffer a lot trying to get our true lovers on our side. It ensures that your feelings do not get ignored.

If you are a strong believer in love and in the power of sending out a strong, positive intention to get what you want, you will understand how important love spells can be. The difference can be identified easily with the changes in your relationship after any of them. Each of the spells are unique and important in its own manner and each of the love spells come up with a different result in a relationship. You must know the importance of each of them as they are not the same, before you cast any spell.I guess that via this post Prachi has gained a couple of links, although I would also guess not quite in the way he wanted. I certainly do not want a reciprocal link on the sites he manages. But I started this blog post as a question, so what do you think? Is it OK to promote services that sell spells? Is it OK to sell love spells? Is it ethical to cast love spells at all? Please leave a comment, as I am really interested in what others think about this.
