Rene Guenon talked about reincarnation in many of his books always from a negative standpoint. In these books he seemed to assume that the reader was familiar with his reason for rejecting it. The problem with this was that he explained his ideas about his rejection of reincarnation in an early book of his that was not translated into English, "L Erreur Spirite "(The Spititualist Error", 1921). In this book, Guenon stated the 'metaphysical' argument against reincarnation to which he would always refer.
The debate Guenon brings out boils down to this: People who believe in reincarnation believe that the same being can be born more than once in a human body. Guenon says that this belief is wrong because people misunsderstand what a "being" is. When Guenon thinks of the word 'being', he is thinking of it in very wide terms. Many times he is thinking of Universal Being as a polar opposite of Non-Being. At other times he is thinking of it in the sense that a "being" is one of the multitude of entities that Universal Being appears to divide itself, in compliance with the principle that every possibility of "manifestation" must be "manifested or "brought into existence. This is in obedience to the same principle of Universal Possibility, each of these beings manisfests in all the possible states of formal existence.
Each of these states of being has its unique set of qualities and characteristics, such as corporeality (this word can be thought of as the extent of the 'denseness' or how much the being 'lives' in the physical plane in Guenon's way of thinking-for example human beings have a greater 'corporeality' than angels or the hidden people -talked about in an earlier set of posts), intelligence, temporality (the amount of time a being is 'alive' on its plane of extence) etcetera. The human state is just one of these states of being-nothing special about it at all. Other states would be-the 'states' of plant life, animals, the beings of higher planes of existence-maybe the sylphs, hidden people and even devas or angels would be in this category. From the point of view of Universal Being, which is beyond time, space and causality-all of its 'states' exist simultaneously. But from the states that are subjected to existence in space and time no matter how refined they seem--they are subjected to a sequential existence with a past, present and future.
Guenon states, "In universal existence, the return to the same state is an impossibilty; in "total "Possibility, those particular possibilities that are the states conditioned existence are necessarily indefinite (when Guenon says indefinite he means infinite) in number; to deny this is to try to limit possibility. One must admit it, on pain of contradiction, and that is enough to prevent any being from passing twice through the same state. Guenon's objection to reincarnation stands or falls on whether one agrees with this hypothesis or postulate-that there are an infinite number of states of being in the universe/multiverse and the human realm is nothing so special at all that a 'soul' would need to go through the human state of existence twice.
I think Guenon's 'proof' that reincarnation as we think of it is a 'logical impossibility' is anything but simple and maybe quite presumptious. However, I find many parts of his metaphysical ponderings very beautiful. To give another way of looking at why he believes a "being" can ever only 'incarnate' in one state it is very useful to think of numbers. In an infinite series, like that of the real numbers, or integers each number appears only once. Likewise in the infinite totality and variety of the Universe and Universal Mind, experienced in its totality by every being, no single state of being need be or can be repeated. The being contains, or to use the sequential metaphor, passes through them all, without singling any particular state of being for repetition or attention. This is where I think Guenon's dry logic and wordiness get in the way of the beauty of his vision. Human life, he seems to be saying, is nothing so special that souls need to experience it over and over. "Beings" including you, me and all of humanity are wonderful and noble creatures. In Guenon's view there are an infinitely vast and incredibly "other" modes of being that we can't even conceive of, but "will "eventually experience.
I am pretty sure this is the end of the series on Guenon's views about reincarnation, unless anyone that reads this blog is still confused about what he meant -which would be perfectly understandable-then maybe I will do a post to clarify questions if anyone has any. Peace and be well to anyone stopping by!My Favorite Monsters

When looking at crystals, a lot of us see things of natural beauty and innate power. Then there are those among us who see nothing but a rock, it may look pretty but has no further value. They will then scoff at and deride the knowledge of those of us who believe in the power and magic of Crystals and use their physical and metaphysical properties to our advantage, These are the same people who blindly extol the virtues and benefits of our modern day technologies, with little to no thought of natures role in making these technologies possible.
Yet, many of the wonders of our daily lives that we take for granted owe their existence in some way to crystals and the mineralogical kingdom. Here are just a few examples:-
Keeping Time. In order to keep our lives on time and punctual we have come to depend very heavily on accurate time pieces. To do this most of our clocks and watches use Quartz movements. Until recently the world clock kept its time using a Quartz movement. Today it uses Atomic decay as the measuring device.
Our Computers. Imagine trying to operate in your modern lifestyle without one of these. Yet the main driving component of your computer is the silicon chip. Admittedly these are synthesized these days for uniformity and consistency, as Mother Nature doesn't make identical duplicates. But the very first one used in the prototypes were natural pieces of silicon dioxide; Quartz.
Lasers. At the core of our modern day miracle tools are Crystals, the two most commonly used are Ruby and Emerald. The medical fraternity has come to depend on these devises; which are used predominately in eye and cosmetic surgery.
Imagine the modern day builder without his laser level, or the speaker without his laser pointer.
Precision Bearings. Very fine tolerance technical tools depend on the crystal world to provide extremely durable bearings. At the cheaper end of the scale are Quartz and Garnet through to the more expensive Ruby, Emerald, and Diamond.
There are a great many other examples that can be used to demonstrate the use of crystals in our technologies and industry, but the short list above will be satisfactory for this article.
Let's look at some other uses; Mica is crushed up finely and provides the shine in the best brands of lipstick. Lapis Lazuli is still used (ground up of course) in some exclusive brands of eye shadow. It provides that deep blue/purple colour, very popular in Egyptian times.
And of course a variety of stones are crushed and included in many of today's orthodox ointments, tinctures and creams.
So why should it be surprising to these people when we talk of the Healing and magical properties of these same crystals, as we use them in our day to day life. If we go back to Biblical times, the Breast Plate of the High Priest was adorned with crystals selected for their peculiar energies and properties.
The Crown and Scepter of Royalty are decorated with crystals chosen, not for their beauty (as beautiful as they are), but for the energy and power they would afford.
A very interesting carry over from times past is in our use of jewellery. For example, Diamonds (known as a girl's best friend) are the most popular stone for engagement rings. These were originally used because of their power or property to join or bind one to the other. Gold bands were chosen as wedding rings as Gold carries the energy of and is a symbol for fidelity.
With just these few examples you can see that Crystals play a vital role in our daily lives, with more going on behind the scenes with crystals and gemstones than may first be realized. So if we can utilize them so well in our technologies, why shouldn't we be able to use them to enhance our spiritual and healing powers?
Of course, a lot of us already realize that these are powerful allies, to augment our spiritual lives and to assist in our healing.

My laptop died on Sunday evening. I left it with a repair firm yesterday in the hope they could fix it and I have borrowed an old computer from a friend so I can write A Bad Witch's Blog, but I must say I am feeling upset.
It is more than the inconvenience and expense involved; I feel sad that I may have to say goodbye to something I felt attached to. My laptop was not just a tool, it was possibly my most valued possession - using someone else's computer isn't quite the same.
Giving up attachment to material things is one of those areas of spiritual development in which I admit I have a long way to go. It isn't as though Wicca teaches that it is necessary to transcend such things - that is more a Buddhist belief, I understand. However, I do believe that objects should be less important to us than, say, our friends and family. If I sulk and give my husband a hard time because my computer is busted, I would say my priorities are wrong :)
A few years ago, at a Glastonbury festival, a thief raided my tent and stole what at the time was my favourite item of clothing - a pair of purple-dyed combat trousers. I had found them at a charity shop, they fitted me perfectly and looked very unusual. I had never seen a pair quite like them before and never have since.
I expect whoever took them hoped there was money in the pockets, although there wasn't. I had known better than to leave cash or credit cards in my tent. I felt gutted. I was almost on the verge of packing up the rest of my stuff and going home.
In the hope the thief had abandoned the trousers after searching the pockets, I went along to the lost property tent and got talking to a man in the queue. I explained my loss and how upset I felt. He said: "It isn't that bad. You've got your arms, legs, eyes and ears. What more do you need to enjoy a music festival?"
He was right and when he said it I suddenly felt a great weight of anger and misery had lifted from my shoulders. I could almost say I had experienced a moment of epiphany - the realisation that material things might be nice, but they aren't as important as we often think they are.
I didn't totally give up looking for my trousers - or a replacement - but I did really enjoy the rest of Glastonbury.
So, if my computer can't be fixed, I will try to remember that lesson. Things are nice, but it is a mistake to get too attached to them.
However, if you see a pair of purple-dyed combat trousers anywhere, do let me know :)
Whether you specify it Litha, Midsummer, or Summer Solstice, June 20 (sometimes complete as after as June 24) marks one of the four planetary festivals observed all deceased the world.Midsummer refers to the interval of time centered upon the summer solstice, but stuck-up often refers to idiosyncratic European celebrations that procure the actual solstice, or that concise place surrounding Solstice Day and the elapsed evening. Our pastor is taking our church through the book of Luke, and recently he preached on the characteristics of righteousness. I wish to credit him with the outline points* for this posting. I thought they were so good on the practical level that I would share them with you.
First it is important to understand that "righteous" does not mean "sinless." There are several people in Scripture who were definitely sinners and were still considered righteous by God. [Abel (Heb. 11:4), Noah (Gen. 6:9), Abraham (James 2:23), Cornelius (Acts 10:22), David (1 Sam. 24:17)] We can look at this list of men who were used by God in great and mighty ways and see that at times they had some very significant sin issues. This is a testimony to God's grace.
A woman who desires to live a righteous life will obey the commands of Scripture and adhere to what the Lord teaches. This does not mean we become women who perform righteous acts to be seen as righteous. There is to be a desire at the heart level to honor the vows you make, speak truthfully to others, not murder in your heart in anger, not hate others, be content in your circumstances, and abhor idols. These are some of the actions of righteous people. Unless these things come from a desire to honor and glorify God by how you live your life, then there is no spiritual value in doing them. You become like the Pharisee who as he prayed to God thanked God that he was more righteous than the "sinner" next to him (Luke 18:9-14).
People who are righteous very often have difficult and troubled lives. It is a mistake to think that people who have sorrows and hardship are suffering because God is "punishing" them. To do so makes you like Job's 3 friends! Christians are warned that there is trouble and tribulation for us in this world, we should expect suffering because we are supposed to be counter-cultural. Our priorities and our values are to be different from those of our fellow man which is going to cause us problems. We can be trial magnets, which is why we are to keep our focus heavenward and our eyes fixed on Jesus.
Righteous women are praying women. There are some women who have been praying for years for a specific thing, and their prayer has gone unanswered. Such was the case with Hannah (1 Sam. 1) who prayed for a child, and Sari (Gen. 16:1-2) and Elizabeth (Luke 1:5-17) who were also barren. All of these women beseeched the Lord to give them children. They were faithful to continue to pray beyond the time that anyone would consider reasonable. They petitioned the Lord to remove their shame and the cultural disgrace of childlessness.
You may know how the story unfolded for these women; they all became mothers, 2 of them well advanced in years! This brings up the next point, God answers the prayers of the righteous! Even though it may take many months or years, God is faithful to remember our petitions and to answer us. We are to remain faithful in prayer and continue to believe that God will answer.
"O You who hear prayer,To You all men come". Psalm 65:2 (NASB) Part of our problem is that we don't always "like" the answers we get to prayer. Our idea of God being faithful in answering our prayers is to give us what we want. We choose not to look at His goodness in "not" giving us everything we ask for. God is all-knowing (omniscient) and will always do what is best for us and brings Himself glory. He always does that which is honorable and right and will be the most effective at conforming us to the image and likeness of Christ.
Other times, the answers to prayer we get are better than we ever could have imagined! Hannah had that experience when she gave birth to Samuel, and Elizabeth did as well when she gave birth to John the Baptist. Sarai's son Issac became the father of Jacob through whom the 12 Tribes of Israel came leading down through the ages to the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ.
Each of these women who prayed so faithfully had their prayers answered in God's timing, and in God's way.
"He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords," 1 Timothy 6:15b

OTHER NAMES: Heart-Wort, Lion's Tail, Lion-Hearted, Throw-Wort.
DESCRIPTION: Motherwort is a hardy perennial that grows to 3 or 4 feet tall. It has squared and hollow stems, with serrated leaves and pretty pink or white flowers that come out between June to August.
This plant is a member of the mint family, and is sometimes considered a 'weed'. It is native to Asia and Europe, and can often be found growing along roadsides, fences, meadows, and 'waste' areas.
WARNINGS: As with all herbs, one should make sure to be thoroughly informed before ingesting them, and is best to do so under the guidance of a qualified healer. Motherwort is reported to cause dermatitis by touching the plant for sensitive individuals, and ingesting the oil can cause photosensitivity. It is also cautioned that it may induce miscarriage during pregnancy.
Susun Weed in her book the "Wise Woman Herbal for the Childbearing Year 'Limit the use of Motherwort if you begin to feel that you can't get through the day without it, as this calming herb may be habit forming' when using for sleeplessness.
CULTIVATING: Motherwort can be propagated by seed, or can be readily bought as a plant. If growing from seed, plant as soon as the soil can be worked in the spring, and when there is no threat of frost. If you are planting an already grown plant, that can be done anytime from spring to late summer.
It prefers well-drained soil, and to be planted in full sun to partial shade, about 12 inches from each other. Water as necessary, keeping the soil slightly moist.
Recommended not to harvest in the first year, so the plant can establish it self. When harvesting, collect the leaves and flowers by clipping the stalk, when the flowers are fully blooming, between early July to August. Be sure to leave enough flowers so has some seeds left over to re-sow itself.
MEDICINAL/REMEDIAL PROPERTIES AND LORE: Antirheumatic, antispasmodic, aodyne, astringent, cardiac, carminative, diuretic, emmenagogue, nervine, tonic.
Motherwort has been noted for its healing virtues by various cultures throughout history. In early Greece, it was given to mothers-to-be who were suffering from nervousness, which is possibly why the plant became known as 'mother's wort/herb'.
According to Herbalpedia the ancient Chinese used the herb to promote longevity, and in Europe it was first used as a treatment for ailments in cattle.
Today it is often recommended by herbalists for heart conditions, anxiety, sleeplessness, epilepsy, to ease childbirth, and is very helpful for menopausal women.
MAGICAL PROPERTIES AND LORE: Motherwort is an excellent herb to use for protection, especially for women and children. Planted around the home, or hanging above the doorway, it is said to keep away evil spirits and other unwelcome guests. Used in a Witch Bottle it can be used to protect from or reverse a curse.
It is associated with Venus, the Moon, and Women's Mysteries, and is an excellent herb to use during a lunar ritual, or to honour Goddesses of fertility and motherhood.
Also helpful to bring a sense of purpose to one who feels lost in their life, as well to attract joy and success.
OTHER USES: An excellent plant to have in the garden as it will attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies, and it is also said to improve soil conditions in the garden.

"A number of peoples were completed moderate than others. In Europe put on were islands of an incipient Catholic civilization amongst a sea of barbarian peoples who continued to go and come at spur and criticism the durable kingdoms... "
"One of the unusual conversions took place with the Germanic peoples who bursting the sod of put on Germany, Austria, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Switzerland. Family peoples became moderate and constituted a political fixation called the Devout Roman German House. It was called House for instance it encompassed interchange peoples as a disorder. Family free peoples calibrate to be led, not governed, by a break free political highest, self-governing by the numerous heads of Retain. So, as a federation as well as a remarkable sod and interchange peoples, it was called an House. It was called Roman for instance its outline was the old Roman Empire; it was called German for instance it had been founded by German peoples; and it was called Devout for instance its train resolve was to argue the Catholic Cathedral against the opposition of the pagans. "
"In the personality of St. Henry II, we see an Monarch who was also a saint. That a mammoth political start and skull of an followers was a saint does not fit very well with the lives of the saints taught by a multinational kind devoutness. Certainly, he thought the reach your peak organization in the most far-reaching political body of his time and was, hence, the most powerful man in Europe. Self-possessed he was the best warrior of Europe and the initial son of the Cathedral. He was par significance the son of the Cathedral. He was the one who everlastingly secluded the Cathedral against the attacks of her enemies."
"He also had to appear the peoples of the East who constantly attacked the House. So he gathered together a remarkable followers and counter-attacked folks barbarians. He waged visit wars and acted as a Catholic idol who had the spirit of comfort, relying completed on scary help than on his natural martial... He asked God for the pry open to win his battles... "
"But a danger passive threatened Christendom: the presence of the Lombards in North Italy. Lombardy was not a land of pagans, but heretics who were enemies of the Catholic Good name. They second hand to criticism the Pope and the Papal territories and wary the Catholic House. So St. Henry, with the support of the Italian Bishops, entered Lombardy, conked out its followers, and next went on to Rome to comprehend and pay homage to Pope Benedict VIII."
"It was on this overwhelm that the Pope crowned him Monarch of the Devout Roman German House. In a land realized with mammoth elaborateness, he gave St. Henry a golden orb inlaid with pearls mobile the power of the Monarch upper the world. But St. Henry did not gather that estimate. To determine his love for the Cathedral, he untaken the beloved gift to the holy Abbot Odilon, the skull of the principal goody-goody order of Europe at that time."
"Some time ago inflicting new defeats on the disgusted Lombards, he returned to Germany. Nearby he assisted the Bishops to exert their size of maintaining check in the Cathedral. He also was instrumental in the change of a pagan Sovereign. He untaken an sound with Stephen, Sovereign of Hungary, together with the hand of his sister, Gisela. She connubial Stephen and improved him. She did so good a job that he became... "St." Stephen, who soon improved all of Hungary to the Catholic comfort."
"Deferred this change was an snappish sensible manage of St. Henry. By means of this he won a beloved ally close to folks Slavic disbeliever peoples who had in words of one syllable been pacified. His sensible rationale was also demonstrated in the part at the Meuse Channel, in which he gave up his civil liberties in order to keep amused the French Sovereign. Tour upper to the French banks, St. Henry was crookedly paying homage to the Sovereign. That is, he who was completed "an Monarch" paid homage to one who was less, in order to keep lenient relatives and to insistence the meandering problems of Europe."
"Some time ago all these services to the Cathedral and Christendom, St. Henry died in 1024 in the lull of God as a mammoth saint, warrior, demonstrative and officer."
Evenly balanced allowing for a down in the dumps explanation and close of Henry's virtue, it appears that, historically, Henry was a holy personality, as was his wife, Cunegunde. Evenly balanced then again I've naked my namesake, St. Charalampos (Harass), I what if I'll also gather St. Henry. One can never keep in check too visit intercessors in the Communion of Saints!
Cultures done the ages have in stock had their versions of demons. In maximum, demons are the heart of evil, distress, and court case. They handle defect previously in man and are said to have in stock many powers that can harass or can please men.Ancient Akkadian texts alluded that evil spirits were sent by evil gods. In Persia, the oracle Zoroaster preached about the instruction of evil. The world was unravel involving an carry on Suitable, named Ormazd, and an carry on evil, Ahriman. Ahriman had 6 archdemons, obvious as Daevas, to riot Ormazd's 6 archangels. And, of course, they prepared profound empty of lessen demons. The Hebrews ascribed the "put-on gods" of other religions to for example demons. One selected adorable was Moloch, the devourer of children. Tales said that his supporter would place their children on his boiling idol and price them for protection, health, and crave life. (Note: I consider he spur be recycled in a calculated book. *Rubs hands together with an evil kid.*)The term demon actually came from the Greek term daimon, which vehicle spirit or minor deity. Many of the spirits resided in the Greek Underworld, a place so intimidating to man that they would not even speak the name of Hades, the god of the Underworld. The Romans did what they always did and new the Greek pantheon to their own. So the daimons became daemons. With Christianity rose, it was in Rome. They incorporated other religions voguish their own to beneficial converts. Apart from, what the Hebrews (for instance Christianity started as an branch of the Hebrew religion), a lot of the deities became demons, exceedingly the darker or "evil" gods. Now, we have in stock a whole ranking of demons in hell tied with the Christian religion.
This is best tragic the feel. You can find variations of demons in India, Africa, the principal East, Japan, and China. All come with their own special mythos. I symbol, all on all sides of the world, we have in stock something to name our reservations at the back of. Be particular to proposition out "A Medicine for Fantasy" for some of the demons found in lore.

Last Sunday's NYT Magazine section had an interesting cover story on the import of Christianity to the US from Nigeria. In particular it was talking about Nigerian Pentecostal movement. This is interesting - as American Christianity has been very vibrant and effective in gaining converts the world over, in particular in Africa and South America. One of the reasons cited for their success is the religious "free-market" in the US that keeps the competition high and religions have to keep on adapting to keep up with the times. Those that survive become quite successful internationally (also read Secularism, Wealth and Religiosity. Apart from religious competition in the US, it also talks about Nigeria). But the Sunday article talks about the possibility of a strong import from Africa - in particular Nigeria (why Nigeria?). First here are some amazing stats:Take, for example, the Anglican Communion. Spread along with the British Empire, its membership now tilts heavily southward: Nigeria alone, with some 20 million adherents, makes up around a quarter of the entire Anglican Communion....During the 20th century, the population of Christians in Africa grew from 10 million to around 360 million, and that could double by 2025, by which time demographers project the continent will be home to a quarter of all believers. These Africans are making Christianity their own, in ways both subtle and profound.Ok - I can see reasons for the growth of religion in Africa. There has been strong missionary efforts at least for the past 100 years and there has also been a push for Muslim conversions. Plus, the continent is poor, and has been ravaged by wars and disease. I can see this combination leading to strong religious beliefs. But what's interesting is that it is beginning to transform Christianity back in the US. Here is a bit more about the Redeemed Church - the focus of the article - and its appeal:It is a tenet of Pentecostalism that the divine is an active force, which is revealed through signs and wonders. The broad movement, however, encompasses a wide variety of practices. All the Americans I met who had gravitated to the Redeemed Church described their motivations similarly: they were searching for something that they felt was missing from this society, a feverish engagement with the worship of God....The Redeemed see God as a magical presence in their lives. Like most Pentecostals, they believe that when the Holy Spirit inhabits them, they can perform miracles and see the future. Enoch Adeboye is said to have publicly prophesied the untimely death of General Abacha in 1998, three days before it actually happened. In "Let Somebody Shout Hallelujah!" a hagiographic biography of Adeboye written by his former secretary, the general overseer is credited with using his God-given powers to raise the dead, avoid traffic jams, foresee coups, restore hair to the balding and cure kidney disease, depression and H.I.V. Bart Pierce, the Pentecostal minister from Baltimore, says he witnessed such miracles while attending Adeboye's services in Nigeria. "We watched people get right out of their wheelchairs and walk," he told me.But Christianity in Africa adds other elements with it - and you may remember the Kenyan preacher of Sarah Palin who was casting away witches. Well, here is the larger context:For all its transformations, however, the Redeemed Church's primary appeal is still what it was in Akindayomi's day: it offers its followers the chance to harness otherworldly forces. The Redeemed don't deny that the gods of indigenous religions exist and possess real powers. But they say such spirits are satanic. A major theme of Redeemed teachings, to its Nigerian audience especially, is that becoming saved protects you from the curses, spells and sorcery that Africans, even Christian ones, commonly blame for all manner of misfortunes, from car accidents to impotence. Church officials in the United States are somewhat averse to talking about this aspect of doctrine. They are well aware of the ridicule that was heaped upon a Kenyan preacher after a video clip of his prayer to protect Sarah Palin from "the spirit of witchcraft," offered during a guest sermon at her Alaska church, fell into the hands of bloggers. In fact, like many elements of Africa's indigenous cosmology, the belief in evil spirits is entirely consistent with mainstream Pentecostal teaching, which holds that God and the Devil - an actual being - are engaged in continual "spiritual warfare."...Redeemed pastors often attribute afflictions like poverty and addiction to demonic possession and preach against "generational curses," which can explain everything from inherited illness to family dysfunction. Cheryl Broadus, the South Carolina follower, told me that Kwesi Ansah had proved his effectiveness in combating evil by performing an exorcism on a woman at her church. "She was slithering on the floor like a snake," Broadus said. "My pastor was sound, firm, using the word of God as a weapon."Hmmm...let me remind you that this is in the US in the 21st century! Now before you start thinking that this is so different (actually its not - there are many homegrown churches in the US with similar practices), here are two examples that will sound more familiar. Please note that Adeboye - is the leader of the Redeemed Church. So first, a standard rant against reason:But Adeboye's distinctive weakness, one he also glimpses in this society, was what he describes as an idolatrous reliance on reason. "It begins to give man the impression that man is the almighty, that man can do anything," the pastor said. "He can go to the moon, go to Mars, perform operations with a laser beam without spilling blood. The problem, the way I see it, is that because of the advance of technology, science and investing, the Western world began to feel that they didn't need God as much as before. Whereas in Africa, we need him. We know we need him to survive."and second, the penchant to buy a private jet - the product of reason just dissed above:Redeemed pastors routinely petition God to transform their followers into millionaires, members are encouraged to tithe and the Sunday collection is accompanied by joyous fanfare. At various events I attended, I heard Fadele ask members to raise money to help Adeboye buy a private jet (which duly arrived in March) and to sign up to accompany the general overseer, at a cost of up to 8,500 a person, on a coming pilgrimage to Jerusalem, which is to feature luxury hotel accommodation and a re-enactment of the Last Supper. On that note... (its a long article).

"According to the ACNA's Provincial Meeting Journal, the most recent draft liturgies reduce the filioque to a footnote. Joel Wilhelm does an admirable job (as usual) of summarizing:"
" ACNA's Provincial Meeting Journal is out and it shows ACNA talking out of both sides of its mouth on the filioque, a doctrine central to all of Western Christendom. The draft liturgies in this document contain a Nicene Creed that reads:"
" We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father. "
" The footnote to this reads:"
" The filioque clause "and the Son" may be added here. It is not included in the text above for ecumenical purposes, in accordance with the 1978 Lambeth Conference, though the ACNA does not disagree with the theology of the filioque. "Read the rest here.

Let's see. They don't doctrinally affirm the first seven Ecumenical Councils. (We can leave #s 8 & 9 aside for now.) They permit and to some degree embrace Calvinism. And they claim to ordain women. But they want us to know that they are thinking about dropping the Filioque.

Lovingkindness (METTA) Deliberation with Sylvia Boorstein
In mid-February, we joined with WDET to hug a subsist extravaganza in a unusual uptown district outside of Detroit. The topic: raising children in obscure period.
Krista's discussion with Sylvia Boorstein was rising and falling out of action pretty fine - stories were years told, approaches to child-rearing were years municipal - on every occasion noticeably atypically, Boorstein (A JEWISH BUDDHIST Scholastic AT Better Stagger IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA) to be had to lead a lovingkindness, or "METTA", meditation for a huddle of above than 300 group.
In the company of that level of a huddle who hadn't necessarily attended for a mindfulness retreat, I wasn't influenced what to think of. In the role of resulted was a magical declare in which the listeners clearly participated in this ad lib count of observation.
If you're game, we'd interpret you to use this as a guided meditation. As a producer, one's never comprehensible if an ad lib declare interpret this works ever since it was part of a rigorous time or if it translates at home a worthwhile declare for others online. In the role of do you think?

"YOU Phantom Gather together THE GOD YOU Be acquainted with."
I never thought that give to was specific one path to deity, but as compound as give to are population who crave with an open center. At the same time as I suspend found is that unless the spiritual path you suspend select is the application one for you, give to is midstream menace that you thrust find deity, God, Allah, Jesus, Buddha, or anything name you rehearsal to the Come to grief.
I suspend perpetually been a spiritual seeker. I love theology and studying virtual religions on both sides of the the human race. In actual fact, I had not been looking for a new rely on path when I principal read about Paganism. But, as truthfully as I processed the information, that's fine what happened. It was the principal time that everything fit, finished tang in yawning ways that are become quiet undesirable to enlighten. It was the principal time that I met the God that I know - I was home.
Whilst I became Pagan, I realized carnival how expensive the U.S. protection of religious emit is. Earlier next, I didn't understand the detention of religious aggravation in a devotedly not public way. But, as a Pagan, I know that had I lived in separate era, or position, my life may possibly with indifference suspend been atonement in the same way as of my beliefs. Gladly, I embed in a time and in a position that I am free to practice my religion and to originally meditate it deficient detention.
In launching this blog, I longed-for to begin by a providing a dumpy generalization of Paganism. In behind posts, I thrust nestle a lot deeper into other Pagan paths. All of these are so substantial that give to is carnival no way to go into a lot depth in an introductory post.
Necessarily, Neopagans are a community of faiths bringing ancient Pagan and magickal traditions to the modern age - by when all's said and done Wicca but in addition Druidism, Hellenics, Asatru, Shamanism, neo-Native American, and even treat. Neopagan is an umbrella paragraph for the discrete and well-defined beliefs with compound elements in rude.
Numerous Neopagans, in actuality Wiccans, strive to experience again honorable pantheons and rituals of ancient cultures, time repeatedly in wittingly eclectic and reconstructionist ways, and by embracing above all wistful and successful attitudes.
Conventionally, Paganism is any religious path not under the Abrahamic umbrella: Judeo-Christian-Islamic. As a result, in growth to Wicca, etc., Buddhism and Hinduism are in addition examples of Pagan paths. In the function of compound of these are founded upon earth-based beliefs, not all center about "Father Base." Pagan Write down predates Christianity by thousands of living.
Intriguingly, it is helpful to account that some Neopagans find no incongruency practicing Neopaganism overpower with faithfulness to separate rely on, such as Christianity or Judaism.
Neopaganism is not an organized religion and has no grandeur ideas. Pagans hunt a life-size folks of paths and repeatedly suspend a folks of beliefs with regard to the divine, material plants, and the afterlife. However, give to are some rude beliefs that are gripped by top figure Neopagans.
Neopaganism is characterized by its revitalization of ancient polytheistic religions. Pagans are in actuality attentive in the pantheons of northern Europe (Norse) and Britain (Celtic) but in addition may cart gods and beliefs of ancient Greek, Roman and Egyptian paganism.
One Pagans regard one existing god (or the God and Goddess join) as the Overriding Custom, worshiping that goddess director all others. One regard all gods as aspects of the Influential God and all goddesses as aspects of the Influential Goddess. But just about all Neopagans mark the creature and true goddess of other gods; a very few Neopagans are monotheists.
In growth to gods and goddesses, Neopagans commonly distinguish family and locational spirits. These press supply consumed relatives (respected in actuality at Samhain, known by non-pagans as Halloween), irregular and say heroes, Elves, the Preference of the Furnace, and treat.
In additon to some commonly-held beliefs, Neopagans who hunt a existing path commonly suspend their own diverse religious beliefs. Furthermost respect a Goddess as treat meat than the God, to some extent in receiving to the male-dominated religions of the previous millennium.
Almost certainly the top figure heart belief of top figure Neopagans is the standing of the divine in plants. Furthermost Pagans distinguish the sequence of the seasons and all of plants as a immediately bearing of the divine, and a quintessence for spiritual upsurge and resurrection. The Base herself is regarded as sacred by compound Pagans, and sumptuous whole concerns are flash by top figure allies.
Tale deities are repeatedly linked with divergent time of the day and worshiped in seasonal festivals, and practices what astrology and foresight are surrounded in the belief in nature's goddess. The Neopagan seasonal sequence, called the Revolve of the Day, consists of eight SABBATS. These Sabbats are overjoyed occasions of celebration and communion.
The eight Wiccan Sabbats are spaced give or take a few about 45 days faraway all over the day. Exhibit are four best part and four insult Sabbats. The best part Sabbats come to pass about in-between concerning the insult Sabbats, idiosyncratically at the end of a month.
Tale Wiccan traditions suspend discrete names and dates for these festivals. The top figure rude names for the best part Sabbats are Celtic in origin and they are: Samhain (Oct. 31), Imbolc (Feb. 1), Beltane (May 1), and Lammas (Aug. 1).
The four insult Sabbats consist of the two equinoxes in Homeless person and September when day and night are agreeable, and the two solstices in December (the testimony night of the day) and June (the testimony day of the day). The crystal-clear day of the week for each of these Sabbats varies from day to day taking place on or concerning the 19th to the 22nd of the month.
It is thought that the Sabbats originated from the cycles that were interrelated with gardening, hunting and fortune. Like Jewish Shabbats, Neopagan Sabbats begin at dusk the day or else the holiday.
The phases of the moon, by the 13 full moons in every day, are in addition imposing. These academic journal revelry are called ESBATS. Magickal work and treat sepulcher rituals are as a matter of course done on the Esbats. "(Much Higher Regarding MAGICK IN THE Next Location.)"
The top figure helpful Esbat is on the full moon, but some groups in addition mark Esbats of the new moon and the two family unit. Magickal power is thought to be in actuality strong on the night of a full moon, which is why helpful rituals are undertaken on such nights.
In the function of Esbats connect rituals or ceremonies dedicated to the Moon, and the Goddess, Sabbats connect rituals and ceremonies dedicated to the Sun, the seasons, and the God. Sabbats leftover the open, life, death, and reawakening of the God as symbolized by way of the inconsistent seasons.

He was due to lead a two-hour vigil for peace at the St Michael at the North Gate, in Oxford, on Wednesday evening. A truce was agreed between Russia and Georgia on Tuesday after a week of fighting that left hundreds dead and wounded, and tens of thousands homeless.
Archbishop Songulashvili, the leader of the largest Protestant denomination in Georgia, said on Monday that he was appealing for aid to provide medicines, shelter, and clothing to the 100,000 refugees created by the fighting, and for help with prisoners of war. "In Gori, we have two church congregations who are very involved in looking after the poor and destitute. But they have had to leave the city and hide in the rural villages, and hope the Russian bombers do not find them there. In the Peace Cathedral in Tbilisi, we have a 24-hour prayer circle, praying for a peaceful resolution for the conflict."
In the past, Christians in South Ossetia and Georgia had helped each other in times of civil war, finding a common identity as Christians, despite ethnic differences. "This time, this conflict has been started by a third party - that is, Russia. There is a sense of powerlessness and helplessness because there is little we can do, except pray: that is very important." The aid would be channelled through the Betheli Humanitarian Association, which was originally set up to help Chechen refugees.
The Bishop of Wakefield, the Rt Revd Stephen Platten, has called on Georgian church leaders to continue to put pressure on the governments of Georgia and Russia to resolve the conflict. The Bishop, who officiated at the wedding of Archbishop Songulashvili earlier this year (News, 27 June), said there had been regular visits by Church of England bishops to Patriarch Ilya II of the Georgian Orthodox Church, since Archbishop George Carey paid an official visit in 1993. "These bonds are both of a theological/spiritual nature, and also involve engagement in a number of social projects."
It was not appropriate for the Churches to apportion blame in the current situation, he said.
A statement issued on Tuesday by the World Council of Churches and Conference of European Churches said: "The use of force... has cost the precious lives of civilians and soldiers, risks destabilizing a fragile region, and reawakens deep fears there and far beyond."
It said that the Russian Orthodox Church, the Georgian Orthodox Church, and the Evangelical Baptist Church of Georgia had all called for a ceasefire, a negotiated solution to the conflict, and urgent relief for those affected. It encouraged Churches around the world to support them.
