What do you gain from meditation? Consider what could be. Imagine a "world of peace and ease," yours without changing a thing. Imagine perfect mental balance: "a balance of mind never upset by any event under the canopy of heaven." Meditation holds promise of: "Great Liberation; Great Knowledge; Great tranquility." Great promise however is rarely fulfilled.
Most who meditate gain rest and relaxation, and little more. The shortfall is due to a flaw in traditional methods. This flaw prevents the growth of practice skill, holding benefit to the beginner level. (Some get even less effective with practice.) Meditation's flaw is the lack of feedback necessary for learning. Let me explain.
Meditation: What's Missing?
To a research psychologist with an interest in skill learning, meditation is missing something. Practicing any skill leads to improvement only if you can see what you are doing. In basketball for instance, shooting hoops in darkness would only waste time because knowledge of results is required for learning. The rule applies equally to meditation.
Shooting Hoops In Darkness? Why Meditation Requires Feedback
In meditation, attention is the skill you need to develop. Benefits increase with power of concentration.
While attending however (to your breath; a mantra, etc), attention slips away unseen. Like shooting hoops in darkness, you practice meditation without knowing you're on target. You lose attention without knowing you are losing it, and find out only later when you wake from a daydream.
All traditional methods share this flaw. They lack feedback. They offer no way to monitor attention, yet amazingly, the necessary feedback is right before our eyes and has been there all along, unrecognized. Here's how to find it.
Finding Feedback Right Before Your Eyes!
Throughout meditation's long history, sensations of light have been noted. "Illumination" is described; light is seen at enlightenment. We failed however, to see the cause of ! this lig ht. We never knew it was visual feedback - the very thing needed to excel at meditation.
Light sensations are produced when focused attention holds the eyes still. Here a "fixed image" (an image held in the same place on the eyes retinas) uses up photo pigment (like exposing photographic film). Retinal fatigue follows, and with it distortion in the form of light.
This light signals attention. It tells you you're on target. When your mind wanders, your eyes wander too and the light disappears, signaling loss of attention. Use the light as feedback and you can see what you are doing. You gain the same advantage as seeing your target shooting hoops. Practice skill improves automatically. The key to great benefit is right before your eyes.
The Feedback Meditation Method How-To

- Additional clarifying text for the tradeskill "Test" trophy quests has been added.
- Mariner's Alacrity bonus now decays on spells over level 105.
- Energized Clay Goo Pot now improves the pottery trophy when crafted.
- The August Lorekeeper Sleeves recipe is now labeled as such instead of as "August Lorekeeper Robes."
Quests & Events
- Castle Relic - This Heroic Adventure is now more lenient about giving the key bit to players. Players outside the zone will now receive the key. Also, even if you do not have the key, if you are in the Heroic Adventure instance and have defeated Commander Degmar, the safe room will allow you entry. Note: As part of this change, this task will now lock when the Commander runs from players after their first engagement with him.
- Fixed a bug in Arx Mentis raids that could cause the chest to be removed when the event cleans up.
- They're Everywhere - Reduced the number of injured bixies you need to revive from 15 to 10.
- The Avalanche raid in Icefall Glacier can now be triggered by one person. On progression servers, Seeds of Destruction must be unlocked before it can be triggered solo.
- LDoN quest messages will no longer be sent to players after the Omens of War expansion is enabled on a server.
Spells
- Multiple Classes - Further lowered resist modifiers for all melee abilities from The Darkened Sea. They should land more reliably now.
NPC
- Made an adjustment to the way that NPC character models created prior to the Omens of War expansion are loaded and displayed. This change coincides with a number of graphical updates and fixes to these models.
- Reduced the agro and assist radii on most NPCs within Combine Dredge and the Combine Dredge Heroic Adventure. As part of this change, also marked the NPCs in the quarry as "indoor" so they will have further decreased agro and assist radii.
- Haunted Jack and Spooky Sally will no longer spawn in cities unless the Nights of the Dead event is active.
- Increased the HP on mercenaries of level 101 and above by 10 percent.

- Wizard - Quick Damage will now work on Ethereal Fuse.
- Wizard - The description on Quick Damage now indicates the cast time bonus for ranks 4 and 5.

- Frostfell: Missing Gifts - Fixed the two incorrect references to Elba Straw. The achievement now references the appropriate NPCs: Cordys Leaflighter and Rellith Akkanar.
- Frostfell: Lost Toymakers - Changed the references of Dreadlands to the proper zone of The Great Divide.
- Frostfell: Gathering Jollies - Fixed the typo of "Knopwledge" to "Knowledge."
- New Years: Frostbeard - Fixed the issue with the tasks from M.C. Tinkerton not being flagged as completed, preventing this achievement from completing.
- Upon login, characters will receive achievement credit for the Frostfell tasks "Saving Santug" or "Searching for Clues" if these tasks were previously completed.
- Corrected an issue that prevented Halius Goldenthorn from selling the Statue of Silisia to players that had completed the achievement "Cavern Collectibles."

- NPC pathing in Bixie Warfront should be more reliable.

I don't see a problem with this, although, if you're that interested in the way the Catholic Church does things.....you might want to think about.....doing things that way all the time? You realize that, in a sense, you will be posing as a Catholic all day tomorrow?
In Quebec, there's a big shrine to the famous mother-daughter dream team, Sts. Anne and Mary, and they have tiny chunks of both of them on display.
(Mary's looks like a finger bone, but the piece of St. Anne is literally a "chunk" - just a little square of indescernable body part!) The last time I went there I was in the 7th or 8th grade, and I was amazed that the church could keep track of something so tiny for thousands of years, while I was "lose" my homework assignments somewhere between the bus stop and home.

This is upsetting. I can't imagine why a Catholic Church would claim to have the
relics of St. Anne and Mary. To begin with, St. Anne...we don't even know her name, really. We don't know one single thing about her. What has been passed down about her mostly comes from Gospels that were tossed out of the New Testament and for good reason, like the Killer Baby Jesus stories. We know Mary had a mother. That is all we know. Well, maybe not all....we know she was a good mother, because look how well she did with Mary. Then, on the other hand, Mary, being free from sin, technically could have had Britney Spears as a mother and still turned out fine. Sacred Tradition venerates Ann as the saintly mother of Mary. Works for me! The idea that anyone has a 'chunk' of her is utterly absurd.
But MARY RELICS! WHAT!? It is the Dogma of the Catholic Church (which means this is something the Church says is "absolutely true", unlike, say, whether or not dogs go to heaven) that Mary was assumed bodily into heaven. Her whole body went to heaven and I imagine the dress she was wearing at the time. Unless she had a hair cut right before she left, there ARE NO RELICS.
No "first class relics", at any rate, unless she had had a recent manicure or a haircut. There are three types of relics:
1. FIRST CLASS RELICS: an actual piece of the person.
2. SECOND CLASS RELICS: an object the person touched or used, like her hairbrush or her shoes or her handbag.
3.THIRD CLASS RELICS: an object touched to a first class relic. For example, you touch your hankie to the bone of a saint. The hankie is now a third class relic.
Explaining that will make answering this question a snap!

I'll bet you actually have a third class relic there. I really didn't make this up, I promise.
Regular people used to possess first class relics. Now the Church doesn't want that to happen anymore. For one thing, it's a really big fat sin (simony) to sell relics, which is what was going on, even though it was often disguised as a 'donation'. It didn't pass the smell test, a lot of the time, so the Church just put an end to it.
The Vicarate of Rome is in charge of the relics. If a Cathlic Church needs a relic, for the altar maybe, the priest would write a request to the Vicarate in Rome to obtain a first class relic. You "might" be able to obtain one for yourself, but you'd better have a pretty compelling reason.
I'm not sure quite where the Church stands on possessing second class relics. My guess would be that if you've come by it naturally, like you were Mother Teresa's Super Cuts barber and you kept the comb you used on her, no problem. But once you try to sell it on ebay=problem. I don't think the Church would be much more happy about peole buying and selling and collecting second class relics than She is about first class relics.
But third class relics are NO PROBLEM. You can have oodles of them. I would encourage it! Not the oodles part. I don't know why you'd what oodles, really. That sounds like a collection.
I don't have a problem with having a collection of third class relics, per se. It's just that once you start collecting, where's the veneration? Collecting something tends to be about the pursuit of objects. The saints are not Beanie Babies.

You can name your child "Blotsnefad", if you like. There is no "law" that says you have to give your child a Christian name, let alone a saint's name. It is simply a practice that is encouraged for a couple or reasons: (I love making little lists!)
1. We feel it surely gives the child the automatic intercession of the saint or saints.
2. As the child gets older it's a helpful way to introduce the child to the teachings of the church (what's a saint? how do you get to heaven? what is that light around those heads in those paintings?).
3. We hope that as the child grows he can choose the emulate the saint and call on the saint for intercession.
So you can see why if you name your child Blotsnefad, we become a little depressed. But, we can handle it.
